On May 24, 2011, Cardinal Bergoglio celebrated the day of María Auxiliadora in the Chapel next to San Lorenzo's stadium. That day, the Cardinal spoke about the colors of the club: "Keep María Auxiliadora in San Lorenzo because She is our mother", as San Lorenzo was born in San Antonio's church under the protection of the Virgin. He acknowledged that "I feel a great joy to celebrate Mass looking through the windows of the Chapel of San Lorenzo's stadium".
